It has been (un)officially announced that Microsoft’s Project Natal will be called “Kinect.”  Think what you will about the name, but we’ll see how well it actually works soon enough.  The name will be officially announced in about an hour at Microsoft’s Project Natal Unveiling at the Galen Center.

Post-event edit:
A couple of games for the Kinect were shown (as well as a questionable dress code):

  • Kinectimals, essentially Nintendogs but with cats, including tigers, lions, and cheetahs
  • Joyride, a racing game similar in control to what was shown at Natal’s debut
  • Kinect Sports, which features boxing, bowling, beach volleyball, track and field, soccer, and table tennis
  • Kinect Adventure, a four-player river rafting extravaganza
  • Dance Central, an MTV Games-developed dance extravaganza
  • Other games set in the Disney and Star Wars universes

Jared summarizes the event best: “I don’t get it.”
